Professional Development: Putting the Pieces Together By Sophie Degener, Elizabeth Bramley, Adelfio Garcia, and Ivy Sitkoski
Document: Column
Introductory Paragraph: Literacy is quite a multifaceted concept. If someone outside of reading education asked any of us to provide a definition of literacy, we would likely give that person much more information than they anticipated! Our selections for this issue’s column are symbolic of that as they address a more equitable approach to writing instruction for both K-8 and secondary students, the latest research and terminology in reading assessment, and the use of generative AI which is something many educators are learning to incorporate rather than resist. As you read this column, we invite you to not only consider reading each text on its own as each is informative and impactful singularly, but also to consider how the ideas each provides might work together in the name of literacy instruction.
