By Erik Parsons

Document: Column

Introductory Paragraph:  Welcome to the fourth in a series of conversations with experts in the field of reading, education, and literacy, discussing various topics of interest to our IRC members. Parent and doctoral candidate Erik Parsons spoke with Nicole Lintemuth, an independent bookstore owner who has achieved international renown through her efforts to promote diverse children’s literature and for her opposition to book bans via social media. This dialogue delves into a variety of topics, including book bans, queer representation in children’s literature, the ways indie bookstores can provide resources and support for teachers and school librarians, TikTok as a space for community and connection among book lovers everywhere, and other subjects of interest. An unabridged video recording of the conversation can be viewed on the LetsTokEdResearch YouTube channel.
