Professional Development: Literacy Leaders’ Text Recommendations on Social Justice, Cultural Relevancy, and Equity
By Sophie Degener, Adelfio Garcia, Ryan McCarty, and Ivy Sitkoski

Document: Column

Introductory Paragraph:  As we are looking at the world during these difficult times, we are learning to live with a pandemic and the unnecessary invasion of a country. The rhetoric on social justice, cultural relevancy, activism, and equity continues to be present in today’s communication outlets. The question should be centered on the impact on instruction, curricula, and pedagogies for our more than ever diverse school demographics. We thought of some books that hopefully address some of the important instructional relevancies in these important topics.  We ask that when enjoying the reading selections this summer, you and your colleagues think of new and innovative ways to approach topics that are not typically included in our curricula.
