A Warm wELLcome for Language Learners: Leveraging Technology Applications to Make Texts Accessible for English Language Learners By Sara L. Jozwik
Document: Column
Introductory Paragraph: Literacy is a fundamental human right. Having the skills to build meaning from and think critically about text establishes a foundation for lifelong learning and serves as an instrument of empowerment that can lead to improvements in educational and social-emotional outcomes (International Literacy Association [ILA], 2019; United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization [UNESCO], 2013). Teachers, reading specialists, and interventionists use their competencies to cultivate a love of literacy and to foster lifelong learning for a wide range of readers, writers, and thinkers. The technology resources highlighted in this column offer free and practical solutions for supporting reading comprehension in inclusive classrooms today.
