Message from the Two Rivers Reading Council President:

February 2010

It is hard to believe that the school year is more than half over.  March will be here and gone with all that there is to do between ISAT, Illinois Reading Conference, and spring break.  As many of you know the economy has put a strain on the majority of the population.  The state is behind in payments to the schools and this causes most teachers to reach deeper into their pockets for the students.  I would like to take this opportunity to invite everyone to give just a few hours of time to the Two Rivers Reading Council.  The time you spend benefits others and does not add to the financial burden.  If everyone would volunteer to assist with just one event a year the council would be up and running where it needs to be.  As a volunteer you could pick the time of year and/or activity that would be the most convenient for you.  The council has partnered with Barnes and Noble for meetings and activities.  They have been very supportive and offered ideas and promotion of the reading council.  We are desperate for new ideas and faces so please give a few hours of your time to make Two Rivers Reading Council the best it has ever been.

Here is to the rest of the year,

Jan Serena
