February 25, 2012: Northern Illinois Reading Council will host a Member Appreciation Event featuring Award-Winning Author Tom Lichtenheld from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wonderland Books and Toys, Edgebrook Center, 1625 North Alpine Road, Rockford, Illinois. April 3, 2012: Northern Illinois Reading Council will host Teachers As Readers - TAR,
a book discussion group open to all educators, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
at two different locations: Thunder Bay, 7652 Potawatomi Trail in
Rockford, Illinois, and Junction, 816 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb,
Illinois. The April book is A Response to Intervention: A Framework for Educators by Douglas Fuchs . Please purchase and read the book before the event. NIRC
members will receive a $10 gift card for attending a TAR session. One
CPDU will also be offered!
April 29, 2012: Northern Illinois Reading Council is providing Bus Transportation to the IRA's Annual Convention for the Sunday Institute in Chicago, Illinois. The cost to ride the bus is $20 for NIRC members and $35 for non-NIRC members. To reserve your spot on the NIRC chartered bus, please email Betsy Hoelting reservations by March 17th. Registration for the Sunday Institute must be done separately to ride the NIRC bus.
April 29-May 2, 2012: International Reading Association will host the 57th Annual Convention, Celebrating Teaching, in Chicago, Illinois. To find out more about this convention, check out the Annual Convention section at www.iraconvention.org.
July 1, 2012: Northern Illinois Reading Council is accepting applications for the NIRC Literacy Project Award and NIRC Library Lanch Award. The NIRC Literacy Project Award will be granted to an NIRC member to develop an innovative and exciting literacy project in a school or classroom. The NIRC Library Launch Award is attended to award $250 to a new classroom teacher to be used to purchase new books for a classroom. Awards will be given at the NIRC Fall Conference in September 2012.
