March 1, 2015:South Suburban Reading Council is accepting nominations for the Celebrate Literacy Awardl . SSRC will recognize a local individual, agency, or institution that has made significant contributions in the field of literacy. The winner will be honored at the SSRC meeting in May.
March 4, 2015: South Suburban Reading Council will host No More Summer Reading Loss with Carrie Cahill and Nancy Horvith from 5:00-8:00 pm at a location to be determined.
March 5, 2015: Northern Illinois Reading Council will host a Family Reading Night at 6:00 PM at Brooks Elementary School, 3225 Sangamon Rd, DeKalb, Illinois. The event is FREE.
March 16, 2015: Southern Illinois Reading Councilis accepting submissions for the 2015 Short Story Contest. There will be three Southern Illinois winners will be chose in grades second through eighth to be compiled into an SIRC 2013 Short Story Contest Yearbook. Winners will be notified by April 9, 2015 and invited to the SIRC's Spring Celebration and Reception on Tuesday, April 27, 2015 at the Carbondale Civic Center, where they will receive an award. First place winners will read their winning stories. Entries must be posted by March 16th!

May 1, 2015: MID-State Reading Councilis accepting applications for the Carol Berry Memorial Grant to award a financial grant up to $1,000 to individual council members for the purpose of promoting the literacy of children in the classroom. The guidelines, review process, and submission are available online. The notification and award date is May 15, 2015.
June 18-19, 2015: Suburban Council of IRA (SCIRA)will host the Teacher Renewal Summer Conference with Lester Laminack and Kelly Gallagher from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Skokie Holiday Inn, 7200 West Touhy, Skokie, Illinois. Lester Laminack will be the featured speaker on Thursday, June 18th and Kelly Gallagher will be the featured speaker on Friday, June 19th. Continental breakfast and lunch will be served daily as well as vendors, book browsing and collegial conversations. Participants will receive 12 clock hours. September 10, 2015: College Instructors of Reading Professionals(CIRP) is accepting applications for Student Conference Stipends for education majors who attend the 2015 IRC Conference. Applicants must be full-time education majors attending a college or university in Illinois. Up to ten $75 stipends will be awarded. Winners will be notified by email by September 18, 2015.
September 24, 2015: Northern Illinois Reading Councilwill host the Fall Literacy Conference featuring Maria Walther from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Kishwaukee Community College, Malta, Illinois. Other break outs will feature book talks from Becky Anderson of Anderson's Bookshops and Bert Crossland and Beth Olson of Heinemann Publishing Company. Books will also be for sale. November 1, 2015: Illinois Title I Association (ITA)is accepting applications to award financial grants to members of ITA for innovative programs and projects for the purpose of promoting literacy development in the school and community. Grant receipts will be notified by November 17, 2015. The application process and guidelines are available online.
November 19, 2015: Illinois Family Reading Night is an annual statewide event sponsored by Jesse White, Secretary of State and State Librarian, and the Illinois Center for the Book at the Illinois State Library that encourages families to spend quality time reading together. Participating organizations create programming that works best for their group. This year, IRC’s ILLINOIS READS Program has partnered in the program: Read Across Illinois.
