February 2, 2012:  South Suburban Reading Council will host Skype Sisters with Pam Bartusiewicz and Linda Tatum at Silver Lake Country Club, 14700 West 82nd Avenue, Orland Park, Illinois.  Skype Sisters will demonstrate how teachers can Skype with other classrooms whether down the hall or across the world!  They will also show how to connect with a live author chat and just how easy it is to apply to your every day reading instruction.  Registration costs $23 for South Suburban members, $28 for non-members, and $12 for perservice teachers.  Reservations are due January 13, 2012.

February 6, 2012:  Illini Reading Council will host Books and Technology for the Reluctant Reader with Betsy Shea from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Champaign Public Library, 200 W. Green Street, Champaign, Illinois.  Educators will be introduced to the many books that can entice the struggling reader to be an eager reader and include a tour of the children's library.  This is a FREE event!  Please reserve your spot by February 2nd.  Registration at the door is possible if seats are still available.

March 23, 2012:  Southern Illinois Reading Council is accepting submissions for the 2012 Short Story Contest.  There will be three Southern Illinois winners will be chose in grades second through eighth to be compiled into an SIRC 2012 Short Story Contest Yearbook.  Winners will be notified by April 6, 2012 and invited to the SIRC's Spring Celebration and Reception on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Carbondale Civic Center, where they will receive an award.  First place winners will read their winning stories.  Entries must be posted by March 23rd!

Lincoln Highway in DeKalb, Illinois.  The April book is A Response to Intervention:  A Framework for Educators by Douglas Fuchs . July 1, 2012: IRC Officers take office.

July 1, 2012:  Northern Illinois Reading Council is accepting applications for the NIRC Literacy Project Award and NIRC Library Lanch Award.  The NIRC Literacy Project Award will be granted to an NIRC member to develop an innovative and exciting literacy project in a school or classroom.  The NIRC Library Launch Award is attended to award $250 to a new classroom teacher to be used to purchase new books for a classroom.  Awards will be given at the NIRC Fall Conference in September 2012.

July 11-13, 2012: IRC Leadership Retreat at Grand Bear Lodge & Resort in Starved Rock, Utica. Local Council Officers, State Committee Chairs, Regional Directors, and Executive Officers will attend a comprehensive training and team-building workshop.
