June 14, 2013: IRC Prairie State Award nominations are due.

June 27-28, 2013:  Suburban Council for the IRA (SCIRA) will host the How to Design Effective Instruction for All Students Conference with Doug Fisher from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn-Skokie, 5300 West Tohy Avenue, Skokie, Illinois.  Registration is $210 for SCIRA members, $250 for nonmembers, and $200 for preservice teachers.  CPDUs and graduate credit are available.

July 10-12, 2013: IRC Leadership Retreat at Grand Bear Lodge & Resort in Starved Rock, Utica. Local Council Officers, State Committee Chairs, Regional Directors, and Executive Officers will attend a comprehensive training and team-building workshop. Please watch your mail for registration materials. Contact your local council leaders for information on how you can be more involved in your local council.

January 1, 2014:  Illinois Council for Affective Reading Education (ICARE) is accepting nominations for the Gene Cramer ICARE For Reading Award to honor an educator who has performed in an outstanding manner to show concern for the affective domain and who has promoted lifelong reading habits among students. The award will be presented at the IRC Conference in March. 

January 15, 2014:  Illinois Council for Affective Reading Education (ICARE) and IRC are accepting submissions for the Static Stick Decal Design Contest.  Students in grade 4, 5, and 6 are encouraged to create an original design promoting reading.  The winning design is printed on static stick decals.

January 15, 2014: IRC Ballots mailed to members.

January 27, 2014:  College Instructors of Reading Professionals (CIRP) is accepting applications for the Student Conference Attendance Support Stipends for the 2014 IRC Conference.  Applicants must be full-time education majors attending a college or university in Illinois.  Up to fifteen $100 stipends will be awarded.  Winners will be notified by email by January 30, 2014.
