May 1, 2015: MID-State Reading Councilis accepting applications for the Carol Berry Memorial Grant to award a financial grant up to $1,000 to individual council members for the purpose of promoting the literacy of children in the classroom. The guidelines, review process, and submission are available online. The notification and award date is May 15, 2015.
June 18-19, 2015: Suburban Council of IRA (SCIRA)will host the Teacher Renewal Summer Conference with Lester Laminack and Kelly Gallagher from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Skokie Holiday Inn, 7200 West Touhy, Skokie, Illinois. Lester Laminack will be the featured speaker on Thursday, June 18th and Kelly Gallagher will be the featured speaker on Friday, June 19th. September 10, 2015: College Instructors of Reading Professionals(CIRP) is accepting applications for Student Conference Stipends for education majors who attend the 2015 IRC Conference. Applicants must be full-time education majors attending a college or university in Illinois. Up to ten $75 stipends will be awarded. Winners will be notified by email by September 18, 2015.
September 24, 2015: Northern Illinois Reading Councilwill host the Fall Literacy Conference featuring Maria Walther from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Kishwaukee Community College, Malta, Illinois. November 19, 2015: Illinois Family Reading Night is an annual statewide event sponsored by Jesse White, Secretary of State and State Librarian, and the Illinois Center for the Book at the Illinois State Library that encourages families to spend quality time reading together. Participating organizations create programming that works best for their group. This year, IRC’s ILLINOIS READS Program has partnered in the program: Read Across Illinois.
